Medical First Aid

Is a maritime training course designed to provide seafarers with the knowledge and practical skills required to give immediate medical care on board ships in the event of illness or injury. The course focuses on the assessment and management of medical emergencies until professional medical assistance or evacuation is available.

Training includes basic anatomy and physiology, recognition of symptoms, treatment of wounds, burns, fractures, hypothermia, poisoning, and other common medical conditions at sea. Participants also learn the correct use of medical equipment and medicines carried on board, as well as procedures for communicating with medical advisory services ashore. Upon completion, trainees are capable of delivering effective medical first aid in accordance with international maritime regulations and standards.
