Course Description
Is a professional maritime training course designed to develop the competence of navigational watchkeepers in the effective use of radar and ARPA systems at the operational level. The course provides comprehensive instruction on radar principles, performance standards, limitations, and errors, as well as the interpretation and analysis of radar information for safe navigation.
Participants are trained in manual and automatic radar plotting techniques to determine the movement of other vessels, assess collision risk, and take appropriate action in accordance with the COLREGs. The course also covers the operational use of ARPA functions, target acquisition and tracking, trial maneuvers, and integration of radar information with other navigational aids. Upon completion, trainees are better equipped to maintain a safe navigational watch, particularly in conditions of restricted visibility, heavy traffic, or confined waters.
